Feature Project

In order to estimate the mode shifts to taxi services after additional 2000 medallions are sold in New York City, WT modified the highway skim based on the utility functions affected by the number of taxi cabs added onto the existing traffic and their foreseeable impact on travel utilities, such as waiting time. WT worked with client and prime consultant to document the logic and detailed descriptions of the skim modifications and calibration of the BPM mode choice model using the modified highway skim. The output from the BPM mode choice model were aggregated via different geographic areas, such as lower or upper Manhattan or different clusters of TAZs. Besides the direct TAZ aggregations, WT also worked with the prime consultant to provide another cluster of mode choice output as needed.

As an independent advisor, WT staff provided background information on transportation infrastructure in North America and projected the most likely development path in the next 15 years. Broad comparisons between urban and rural areas, America and China, as well as traditional transportation and shared mobility applications were performed based the research and personal experiences of WT Staff.
