Feature Project

 The South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization (SJTPO) maintains the regional transportation demand forecasting model known as South Jersey Travel Demand Model (SJTDM). SJTDM is primarily used for annual air quality conformity analysis, long range regional transportation plan development, and other planning purposes. SJTPO is conducting a new household survey, under a separate contract, to collect travel patterns of people residing in the 4-county SJTPO region that will be used to update the SJTDM. As part of that effort, WT was requested to provide technical assistance and peer review services for the SJTPO Household Travel Survey to ensure that the survey is being conducted using the state-of-art process and the survey data will be processed in a manner consistent with the format required for the model update. The main components WT has reviewed include:

  • Travel Model Requirements and Future Improvements;
  • Survey sample size and sampling methodology;
  • Survey sample plan for pre-testing and results of pre-test and related recommendations;
  • Survey preparation, implementation and retrieval;
  • Survey analysis and results.

 As extensions of PA staff in their effort to review roadway design drawings and assess roadway capacity impacts, WT worked with the prime consultant to perform air passenger mode choice surveys at JFK airport. Applying a proprietary application via tablet, WT staff has intercepted passengers, collected access/egress mode choice and other SE data and processed the results simultaneously. The survey results were utilized the JFK redevelopment master planning processes.
